Recently, the Shougang-Brilliance BMW-Shenyang University of Technology Labor Union Innovation Alliance Center was inaugurated, aimed at fostering deep industry-university-research collaboration.

With the full implementation of Liaoning Province’s initiative of “Vanguards for Breakthroughs for Revitalization,” the innovation alliance center is expected to play a key role in driving high-quality economic development in the province, carrying the mission of stimulating innovation and facilitating industrial upgrading. Against this backdrop, BMW Brilliance, Beijing Shougang, and Shenyang University of Technology (SUT) will share resources, complement each other’s advantages, and explore new paths for innovation through deep collaboration across industries, enterprises, and disciplines. The innovation alliance center will carry out comprehensive cooperation throughout the entire process of theoretic research on automotive steel sheets, material development, manufacturing, and stamping applications. This will involve close collaboration between the “Materials Science Professor Team,” “Materials Manufacturing Specialist Team,” and “Automotive Stamping Expert Team” of the three sides. It seeks to deepen the integration of talent chains, innovation chains, and industrial chains, accelerate the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, pool wisdom and resources from all parties, create a model of university-industry innovation, drive the industry’s progress, and significantly contribute to the national strategic goals and comprehensive revitalization.

In 2021, Shougang and Brilliance BMW jointly established an innovation studio alliance in response to the All-China Federation of Trade Unions’ call. The Shougang-Brilliance BMW innovation studio alliance has capitalized on closely-related specialties and mutually complementary knowledge possessed by the two sides. It has already completed three phases of collaborative research to focusing on optimizing material parameters precisely, improve die clearance, enhance integration between steel applications and automotive dies, achieve seamless material-die matching, and shorten new vehicle testing cycles for Brilliance BMW. They jointly compiled the textbook Application of Typical Design and Manufacturing Technologies, which received high praise from the Shenyang Federation of Trade Unions.

Since 2023, Beijing Shougang Corporation has expanded its collaborative efforts, establishing nine Innovation Studio Alliances with partners including Brilliance BMW, Huayou Steel Pipe, TBEA, Geely Automobile, and Shandong Guanzhou, laying a solid foundation for deeper collaborative innovation, the creation of a comprehensive industrial ecosystem, and shared success across the entire value chain.
