Recently, Shougang Jingtang officially launched its National Circular Economy Standardization Pilot Demonstration Project, also known as the “National Circular Economy Standardization Pilot Project for Iron and Steel Production”.

Led by the Jingtang Circular Economy Center in cooperation with the Ministry of Energy and Environment, Ministry of Manufacturing and Shougang Research Institute of Technology, this project was approved and announced by the National Standardization Management Committee in January 2024. Shougang Jingtang is one of three iron and steel pilot enterprises to have passed the evaluation nationwide and the only steel pilot enterprise in Hebei Province. The construction period of the project is one year, and the current standards related to energy conservation, environmental protection and solid waste recycling will be collected, sorted out and improved. A circular economy standard system will be constructed, including energy management in production processes, energy control in intelligent factories in the steel industry, and carbon reduction. This will form a PDCA closed-loop sustainable management model based on the Group’s scientific and technological innovation management information system, providing replicable and scalable experience and practices for the steel industry in the city and even the whole country.

The National Circular Economy Standardization Pilot Demonstration Project is jointly organized by the National Standardization Management Committee and National Development and Reform Commission, aiming to fully leverage the important technical support role of standardization in the development of the circular economy, accelerate the promotion and application of advanced technologies in the circular economy, and promote the sustainable development of the economy and social environment.

Shougang Jingtang is committed to the development of the circular economy and standardization construction, being the first in China to complete the R&D of processes and technologies such as seawater desalination, carbon dioxide recycling, five-efficiency integrated high-efficiency recycling, steel slag rolling and pressurized hot sealing, and all-solid-waste cementitious materials. It has been named a national “Industrial Resources Comprehensive Utilization Base”, national “Energy Efficiency Benchmark Demonstration Plant”, “Environmental Protection Grade A Enterprise” by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, “Waste-free Factory” in Hebei Province and “Solid Waste Not Leaving Factory” pilot unit in Tangshan City.
