Bimetal saw band steel is unanimously recognized as a "tough nut to crack" in the carbon steel industry due to its high alloy content, high strength and hardness requirements for it to "effortlessly cut through iron", and high precision requirements in its R&D and manufacturing processes. For a long time, imports have been mainly relied upon for bimetal saw band steel, with high prices and difficult ordering processes, and few domestic manufacturers could provide a stable bulk supply. In order to meet the market demand and further broaden the market channels of Shougang's special steel plate and band products, the special steel R&D team composed of the Shougang Research Institute of Technology and Beijing Shougang's Manufacturing Department, Hot Rolling Operation Department, Steelmaking Operation Department and Quality Inspection Department rose to the challenge. After more than one year of research and tackling key problems, it overcame such "bottlenecks" as impurity element control in the smelting process, corner crack control in the continuous casting process and precision control in the rolling process, and successfully and stably rolled high-performance coils of bimetal saw band steel X32. The entire production process is efficiently coordinated, and steelmaking and hot rolling are "completed in one go" and seamlessly connected, laying a solid foundation for stable mass production. In practical use, Shougang's bimetal saw band steel X32 has been widely praised by customers for its high fatigue resistance, excellent wear resistance, superior toughness and long service life.
