Release Time:2024-04-05 13:30:30
On March 26th, World Table Tennis (WTT) announced that the 2024 WTT China Smash will be held in Shougang Park, Shijingshan, Beijing, China from September 26th to October 6th. Beijing has successfully won the right to host the 2024–2028 WTT China Smash, which will be held in Shougang Park, Shijingshan, Beijing.
The WTT Smash is the highest-level event in the WTT tournament. Top table tennis players from around the world will compete fiercely at Shougang Park, and the champions will receive 2,000 world ranking points from the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF). This is also the first time in 63 years that Beijing has hosted a top table tennis event under the ITTF after successfully hosting the 26th World Table Tennis Championships in 1961, bringing a "feast" to table tennis enthusiasts.
The three venues planned to host the WTT Smash are the Shougang Ice Hockey Hall, Short Track Speed Skating Hall and Figure Skating Hall. These venues are an important part of Beijing Winter Olympic legacy. During the Winter Olympics cycle, the Chinese national ice sports team that trained here won three gold medals, one silver medal, and one bronze medal, showcasing China's "glory on ice". In this WTT event, the venues for ice sports at Shougang will be transformed into "table tennis venues" and serve as a WTT competition hall and training hall. The Shougang Ice Hockey Hall is equipped with multiple functional rooms such as the physical training area, medical room, VIP room, and media room. The original seating capacity of more than 4,000 spectators will be increased to 5,000 after careful renovation. The Short Track Speed Skating Hall will mainly host the group stage, while the Figure Skating Hall will serve as the competition training hall. The Shangri-La Hotel and InterContinental Holiday Inn Express Hotel in the park are less than 500 meters away from the competition venues in a straight line.
In addition, the landscape, Winter Olympic legacy, and industrial relics in Shougang Park complement each other. The park integrates diverse features such as high-tech industries, technology experience, exhibitions, business and leisure, culture and sports, hotel accommodation, and special catering. In 2023, the number of visitors to the park reached 12 million people, and it is a rising hub for technological innovation and a popular destination for micro-vacations in western Beijing. Shougang will further deepen the sustainable utilization of Winter Olympic legacy and industrial heritage, ensure high standards, efficiency, and quality in venue operations and comprehensive services, and present a high-level international event with the distinctive industrial charm and vitality of Shougang for athletes, officials, media, and spectators from all over the world.
As an important part of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) World Table Tennis Tour (WTT), the Chinese Smash has attracted great attention since its inception. Choosing Beijing Shougang Park as its venue this time adds a distinct Beijing flavor to this event. As an important cultural landmark in Beijing, Shougang Park has witnessed the glorious course of Beijing's industrial development, and now it will become a splendid stage for table tennis. This not only injects new vitality into Beijing's cultural and sports undertakings, but also provides renewed impetus for the promotion of international table tennis.
Hand in hand, we are moving towards a new landmark of "Together for a Shared Future" urban revival. The WTT China Smash of "Embracing the World of Table Tennis in Beijing" will bring you more surprises and touching moments. Let us wait with anticipation!
