On February 27th, Edwin Basson, Director General of the World Steel Association, Deputy Director General Zhong Shaoliang and Member and Communication Affairs Commissioner Song Xiaoyan, visited Shougang. They were warmly received by Zhao Mingge, Shougang Group Party Committee Secretary and Chairman, Deputy General Manager Zhu Guosen and relevant leaders of the Research Institute of Technology. Both sides held a discussion and exchange of views on topics of common interest, such as further strengthening their exchange and cooperation on green and low-carbon development.

Representing the Shougang Group, Zhao Mingge welcomed Edwin Basson and his delegation, then introduced the situation of the practice of green and low-carbon concepts and the transformation and development of Shougang Park. He stated that the transformation of Shougang Park is one of the few urban renewal projects globally, as well as a significant carbon reduction project in the urban construction industry. It is meaningful to discuss green development, low carbon and emission reduction in Shougang Park, which has realized urban renewal. Shougang will fully support the work of the World Steel Association, steadfastly pursue the path of green and low-carbon development, and contribute the strength of Shougang to dealing with climate change and improving the quality of the ecological environment.

Edwin Basson thanked Shougang for its support for the work of the World Steel Association, then introduced the research progress and next major tasks of the World Steel Association in decarbonization technology for the steel industry. He congratulated Shougang Park for realizing such an imaginative and amazing transformation. As a practitioner in the steel industry, he is proud to see Shougang Park transform from an old factory area into a modern park, where not only steel elements exist but new industrial elements are also constantly coming in, setting a very good example of sustainable development. He looks forward to discussing decarbonization in such a meaningful place as Shougang Park and hopes that both sides can jointly promote the sustainable development of the steel industry.

It is reported that from February 27th to February 29th, the 2024 World Steel Association Environment Committee (ECO) meeting was held at Shougang. Since joining the World Steel Association in 2004, Shougang has actively participated in its various activities. In March last year, it officially signed the Sustainable Development Charter of the World Steel Association and became one of the 40 charter member units globally. In 2009, Shougang hosted the 47th Annual Meeting of the Environmental Affairs Committee of the World Steel Association, and today, 15 years later, Shougang once again hosted the 2024 Environment Committee meeting of the World Steel Association, where members from the World Steel Association gathered at Shougang to discuss international standards and environmental policy development related to the steel industry.
