On April 16, the reporter went to the foot of the Three Blast Furnaces of Beijing Shougang Park and looked upwards along the two towering and upright steel pillars. Wang Zhipeng, a civil engineering engineer of the First Construction Project Management Department under inspection at the construction site, introduced that the addition of a sightseeing glass landscape platform to the transformation of industrial buildings was the first case in China. The installation of the ground glass on the landscape platform and the installation of the side facade glass were completed and entered the closing stage.

Beijing Shougang Park has a lot of historical, cultural and industrial heritage, and is eager to continue writing its own values in different ways. The Three Blast Furnaces are the most typical production lines in the smelting system of Shougang’s old factory area. Its legacy of buildings and structures is a valuable portrayal of the industrial and technological value of the independent innovation of China Steel. In the industrial park renovation process, the Three Blast Furnaces will stand out, and soon be presented to the world in the form of a modern museum.

The glass landscape platform is a subproject in the Reconstruction Project of the Three Blast Furnaces. It is mainly composed of a tempered glass elevated over the hearth of the blast furnace to form a suspended and transparent sightseeing platform for tourism. Li Fan, deputy manager of the Park Project Department of Steel Structure Company, pointed to the viewing platform and said that the glass landscape platform was built on the roof beam of the original three blast furnaces, and the elevation was 70.1 meters, showing a rectangular parallelepiped, its length was 18.6 meters and width was 11.54 meters, the height of its breast board was 2 meters and its covered area was more than 200 square meters. The glass on the ground floor of the landscape platform adopted “a single 10mm 4-layer laminated tempered glass” and the weight capacity per square meter of tempered glass could reach more than 400kg. It had high pressure-resistance, wear-resistance and impact resistance; the breast board on sides was composed of “single 12mm 2-layer laminated tempered glass”; the top was open. Li Fan introduced that the supporting framework of the glass landscape platform used H-type high-strength steel to form a mesh plane with a high safety factor

Along the three-grill walking ladder, you will see a 9.7-meter cast iron platform, a 13.6-meter tour platform, a 32-meter maintenance platform, and a 40-meter shelter platform. Looking around, the reporter could have a panoramic view of Shijingshan, which is known as the “First Immortal Mountain of Beijing,” the venues for snowboarding competitions located at Beijing Shougang Park, the Winter Olympics training venue “Four Ice Cubes” and the well-proportioned industrial heritage, which have a panoramic view. These views complemented each other and the scenery was beautiful.

Lu Yanfang, a designer of Shougang Construction Investment Co., Ltd., introduced that this glass landscape platform was designed with full respect for space, comprehensive consideration of surrounding landscapes, and rational use of the unique resources of the park, resulting in a distinctive glass platform for tourism. The middle part of the platform adopted “ultra-white glass,” and the breast board with a transparent facade, offering 360-degree views, adopting a rainwater centralized recovery processing technology and arranged floodlighting.

Nearly 100 square meters of glass is transparent at the bottom of the glass landscape platform. It overlooks through the glass and road vehicles, flowers and trees on the ground are clearly visible. To explore this completely unfamiliar glass landscape platform, the reporter cautiously walked a few steps on the landscape platform. A feeling like taking a ride in the clouds and walking in the air, the feeling of beauty, thrilling and excitement was self-evident.

The glass landscape platform is a facility with higher quality requirements. The project builders stated that they must cooperate closely with each other, pass the three-inspection system of self-inspection, mutual inspection, and handover inspection, strictly implement the norms, complete the task of building a glass landscape platform with high quality and high standards, and create a landmark quality work.
