In 2017, Shougang has achieved a major breakthrough in the R&D of tool steel and successfully developed and produced Japanese standard carbon tool steel SK95 steel, and its mechanical properties, surface quality and dimensional accuracy are under good control.

SK95 steel is a trademark of the Japanese standard JISG4401-2009 Carbon Tool Steel. With high hardness and high wear resistance, it is a tool matrix material mainly used in the manufacturing of saw blades, tools, cutting tools, wear-resisting parts, stampings, etc. The Japanese standard carbon tool steel SK95 is a kind of ultra-high carbon steel. It has high susceptibility to slab defects and is susceptible to cracking, so it is very difficult to realize continuous casting. The steel plate has high strength, large deformation resistance and large residual stress, so it is difficult to control the profile shape and roll. Shougang’s technology and production personnel overcame various difficulties and surmounted a series of technical difficulties to achieve domestic launch.
