On February 2, more than 60 overseas academicians and experts, key overseas Chinese businessmen in Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei, overseas Chinese professionals, and representatives of overseas Chinese founding gardens and enterprises, gathered in Shougang Beijing Park to witness the launching of the new Beijing Shougang office area, which is constructed for overseas academicians and experts, and discussed the development and construction of the workstation for overseas academicians and experts, and the innovation and development of Beijing City freely during the forum of innovation and development for overseas academicians and experts named “Mass Innovation to Build the Workstation and Realize Dreams”.

Liu Chunfeng, Director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the Beijing Municipal Government presided over the meeting.

This newly built workstation originally is Shougang office building in the Shougang Beijing Park and was the Shougang Trade Center 30 years ago, known as "the department store of western Beijing. However, 30 years later, in the development and construction of Shougang Beijing Park, it ushers its new role and  transformed into a national public administration service platform connecting overseas academicians and experts and gathering the will, intelligence and force of overseas Chinese; becomes the “reception room”, “exhibition hall”, “think tank” and “service station” providing one-stop services for overseas academicians and experts; becomes a central hub radiating and serving the construction of workstations for overseas academicians and experts all over the country; and becomes the warm “home” of overseas academicians and experts.

Under the leadership of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council and the Beijing municipal leading group for talent work, the Beijing workstation for overseas academicians and experts is a comprehensive service platform for communication and exchange among overseas academicians and experts jointly set up by the office of the Beijing municipal leading group for talent work and the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the Municipal Government in “Dream Garden of Overseas Chinese” of Beijing, aiming at acquiring the world’s top overseas Chinese affairs resources, innovating the mechanism of introducing and using talent, and building a demonstration base for overseas academicians and experts and global Chinese to innovate and start businesses. In the future, it’ll create another new landmark for the construction of the new Shougang Park after the office of the Organizing Committee of the Beijing Winter Olympics.

Qiu Yuanping, Director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council congratulated on the official launching of the office in “one-hundred-year-old Shougang” and pointed out: “Build the Beijing workstation for overseas academicians and experts into a warm home for overseas academicians to communicate and work in Beijing, a high-end influential think tank, and an open demonstration highland of innovative cooperation integrating production, learning and research and enable the high-end technological innovation talent to come forth and produce innovations of higher quality and higher level.”

Qiu Yuanping mentioned: “Shougang has made significant contributions to Beijing’s economic development. The revitalization of Shougang’s old factory area occupies a very important position in the hearts of Beijing natives and she hoped that the workstation for can help rejuvenate the one-hundred-year-old factory area and realize the transformation and upgrade.

In Yong, Vice Mayor of Beijing City said: “Overseas academicians and experts have made important contributions to the development of Beijing and our nation. I deeply feel the needs and aspirations for transformation, innovation, and development of our country, Beijing and Shougang. I am also clearly aware of the strong patriotic enthusiasm of overseas academicians and experts in serving the motherland, serving the nation, and contributing to the realization of China dream. We Beijing Municipal Government will, as always, do a good job of service and support, and help the workstation achieve greater innovation and development.

Jin Wei, President of Shougang Group, introduced the situation of Shougang’s transformation and development, expressed his gratitude for the concern, support and help related to Shougang given by everyone, and said that he would provide exclusive services for overseas academicians and experts, and make this new workstation their warm “home”.

Shougang has won the Royal Town Planning Institute’s “International Planning Excellence Award in 2017”, and as the judge of this award, Yang Wei highly appreciated the designing plan of Shougang Beijing Park, characterizing with international perspectives, which was truly impressive. She said: “It is very good for Shougang to fully integrate green ecology and industrial innovation into its development and she hoped Shougang could introduce more cultural innovations and green low-carbon industries, and attract more high-end talents.”

Zheng Decheng, who visited Shougang two years ago, was delighted to see the achievements and great changes of its transformation and development. He hoped Shougang would take the opportunity of the entry of the Organizing Committee of the Winter Olympics and the establishment of the Beijing workstation for overseas academicians and experts, to promote the transformation and development and to popularize successful experience.
