Shougang Holds 2024 New Energy Vehicle Soft Magnetic Materials User Technical Seminar

On November 12, Shougang Group held its New Energy Vehicle Soft Magnetic Materials User Technical Seminar 2024 in Suzhou. The event marked the global debut of 20SW1100Z and ESW1025R, alongside the unveiling of several new technologies, including self-bonding coatings. Over 300 attendees participated, including Liu Jianhui, a leader of Shougang Group, who delivered an opening speech, representatives from over 110 downstream customers, leaders from Shougang Group’s Chief Engineer Office and the Shougang Research Institute of Technology, leaders of Beijing Shougang, shareholders and members of the R&D and production teams of Shougang Zhixin.

This commitment contributes to help clients develop and fosters synergistic growth throughout the industry value chain. The two newly launched products are the result of Shougang’s meticulous study of customer needs and insightful anticipation of future industry trends. These products, featuring several innovative technologies, demonstrate superior performance and leading-edge capabilities.

The 20SW1100Z represents a significant upgrade to the existing 20SW1200 (0.20mm thick, already a premium product), achieving breakthroughs in strength and iron loss. Incorporating Shougang’s proprietary rapid self-bonding coating technology further enhances core stiffness and thermal conductivity when it is used in new energy vehicle drive motors, reducing iron loss by more than 10%.

The ESW1025R, specifically designed for high-performance, high-speed motors, offers significantly enhanced safety compared to conventional products. This product successfully overcomes the industry challenge of balancing low iron loss and ultra-high strength, achieving a breakthrough in iron loss of fewer than 10 watts per kilogram, and reaches the best iron loss level among the products of the same specifications in the industry. It is expected to inject new impetus into the development of the new energy vehicle industry. Furthermore, Shougang showcased its new high-strength 25SWYS900, which was developed in response to the growing trend towards higher speeds in new energy vehicle drive motor applications. A comprehensive introduction to this product was also presented at the seminar.

Focusing on frontier needs, Shougang develops new technologies to support customer development. During the seminar, Shougang Zhixin launched its new self-bonding core technology. Having solved significant challenges, this technology is a crucial enabler for the high-efficiency, low-loss evolution of new energy vehicle motors, setting a new trend in automotive and thin-strip motor development. To address frontier needs, Shougang has strengthened research on curing mechanisms and component design by leveraging its coating laboratory and established dedicated production lines for self-bonding coatings used in automotive motors and thin strips. The M3 and M7 rapid self-bonding coatings exhibit significant advantages in bonding speed, strength, and film thickness accuracy. Leading automotive manufacturers are already applying these coatings. This technology will play a key role in enhancing the energy efficiency of new energy vehicles and future applications of thin strips in intelligent robotics and low-altitude economy. It will significantly contribute to the high-quality development of China’s power and motor industries.

With exceptional service, the “new applications” enhance the Shougang brand. Shougang Zhixin also unveiled a new loss-reduction technology and two novel core testing technologies. To deliver superior and efficient application technology services and meet customers’ diverse and customized needs, the Suzhou Electrical Steel Application Technology Laboratory of Shougang Zhixin started operation early this year. The laboratory is intended to be a service “bridgehead” based in east China and serving customers around the country. The laboratory focuses on research in various areas, including self-bonding coating application technology, punching, shearing and cutting technology, and multi-dimensional and near-application magnetometry. It provides comprehensive, in-depth, personalized, and effective customized services through early vendor involvement (EVI), offers integrated solutions for efficient product production and operation, promotes the widespread application of Shougang’s soft magnetic materials in new energy, hydrogen energy, unmanned aerial vehicles, and low-altitude economies, fosters the development of new clients, and expands service areas to build a world-class brand for Shougang’s soft magnetic materials.

At the seminar, Beijing Shougang presented the newly launched products, and Shougang Zhixin’s management team showcased Shougang’s history of innovation in soft magnetic materials, highlighting its commitment to cutting-edge technology and exceptional service. A constructive exchange with R&D personnel from Xinzhi Group also took place, focusing on new products, technologies, and applications of soft magnetic materials, industry trends, and collaborative innovation within the industry chain.
